OWNING A DOG IS A PRIVILEGE AND A RESPONSIBILITY
Canine devotion must be repaid with practical care and ensure that their domestic life is happy and fulfilled.
Grooming requirements vary according to individual needs, but you can begin grooming a puppy's coat as soon as you aquire the dog, it helps to introduce the puppy to the sensation of being groomed, therefore, your puppy will hopefully soon accept this attention.
If possible groom your dog on a raised surface, so you can easily access all areas of the body
If your dog has matted areas this could harbour infection. Combing out the mats would be exceedingly painful, and your dog might subsequenly refuse to be groomed again. It is important to seek advise from a groomer on how to remove the mats - the best approach is nearly always to clip away the mats - although this may disturb the smoothness of your dog's coat, the hair will re-grow and the groomer will give you guidance on future grooming care.
There are a wide range of grooming tools, so please make enquiries on what you really need before you waste your money on unsuitable items.
VERY IMPORTANT - that you always groom your dog thoroughly before you shampoo - any knots or mats will only get worse when wet.
Please note -
If you have a puppy or are about obtain a puppy and need advise on when to start the grooming process - we welcome your questions and offer a complimentary shampoo/face tidy/claw clip for your puppy up to the age of 6 months.
